Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge - Creative License

Hello! Welcome to the Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge Blog Hop! If you've been following along you came from Esther's blog. This Month's kit is called Creative License and the Artist Team was tasked with creating metal or faux metal embellishments for our projects.

 

 

I used different techniques to decorate a set of 5 cards and a box to hold them.

 

 

I used a key on the front to hold it closed. I just bent it back and used it as the anchor to hold the ribbon that ties it closed. There's a good tutorial on how to make the box here.

 

 

The 1st technique I used was to emboss metal tape-I think it's used for duct work or something-I got mine at Wal-Mart in the hardware section. It's about 2" wide and has a sticky back-you just peel off the backing paper and stick it down. No adhesive required! You can use any embossing folder and run it through your Big Shot. I actually used a bunch of keys to make my impressions. They are thick so I had to play around with shims of cardstock and chipboard to get it to work right but when I figured that out it was great.

 

 

I also used a real key to embellish :)

 

 

I used it in the inside cover of the card box too.

The next technique I used was to make my own metal doodads from a soda can.

 

1st I used a brillo pad and scrubbed all the paint off the can-do this with the can full! Its much easier!

Then I used tin snips to cut off the top and bottom. Cut the can up the side so it will lay flat.

 

 

Then you can use any die you want to cut out shapes.

 

 

I made mini hubcaps and arrows! I used a stylis and drew on the metal making impressions. I put a piece of chipboard underneath while I was drawing for a little give. On some I flipped them over and drew in the negative space to make better impressions.

 

 I used the hubcaps on these 2 cards.

 

 

I'm very happy with how the hubcaps came out!

 

I stamped the word with Black Staz-on.

 

 

This last one I didn't actually make the keys - I just used them to embellish :)

Club Scrap Creative License Blog Hop

Hi there! It's Blog Hop time again. This time featuring Club Scrap's Creative License Kit! If you've come from Hetty's blog then you're right on track. This kit is a bit different from the last couple of kits and features a more masculine feel with cars and hubcaps and keys...very cool! I decided to make a Perpetual Desk Calendar.

 

There are blocks for the days and for the months-you just move them around to get the combination you need.
 

There's  a couple of tutorials out there for this project but the blocks were too big. I resized all the dimensions so the numbered blocks when assembled are 1 3/4" square.
 

Let's start with the holder for all the blocks.

Cut a piece of cardstock 9 5/8" x 8 1/2"  

Score on the short size at 2 5/8" and 4 1/2"

Score on the long side at 3" and 6 5/8"

 

Fold on all the score lines and cut out the pieces as shown.

 

 

 Adhere the holder together in the back.

 

 

There are 2 pieces that go in the back and bottom

to hold the blocks in at an angle so they don't just fall out.
 

For the back piece cut a piece of cardstock 3 1/2" x 6 1/2 ". Score on the long side at 5/8", 3 1/3" and 5 7/8"

For the bottom piece cut a piece of cardstock 3 1/2" x 5 1/16"

Score 1/2", 2 1/2", 4 5/8"
 

 

Fold and adhere into a triangle.

 

Adhere to the holder.

 

For the numbered Day blocks cut 2 pieces of cardstock 6 1/4" x 7 1/2"

Score on both sides at 1/2", 2 1/4", 4" and 5 3/4"

 

 

I marked the score lines so you can see them better.

 

 

Fold on the score lines and cut out the pieces as shown. Put adhesive on the indicated parts and assemble into a cube.

 I used Scor-tape but any strong adhesive will work.
 

1 cube should have the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

The 2nd cube should have 0, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8. The 6 will also work as the 9.

The mattes for the cubes will measure 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". I stamped on the numbers but you could use die cuts or print them print your computer too.

 

For the month blocks cut 3 pieces of cardstock 3 1/8" x 4 3/4"

Score on the short side 5/8", 1 1/4", 1 7/8" and 2 1/2"

on the long side score at 5/8" from each end.

 

 

Fold on all the score lines and cut out the pieces as shown.

 

 

Fold up and adhere into a long rectangle box.

 

 

I typed up the months on my computer and printed them out. Attach one to each side of the 3 boxes.

 

 

Then decorate any way you want! These are a perfect gift for co-workers to put on their desks!

Taking some Creative License!

Hello again. I've been busy working with Club Scrap Creative License kit! As part of the Artist Team they sent us the this great On the Go Album kit that I love! It comes with 3 CD folders to use to construct the album. There's a great video tutorial on how to put it together. Of course I had to alter the one I made just a bit :) I followed the general construction directions with a few changes.

 

I love the ribbon closure-I decided to do that the way the instructions called for.

 

 

 The 1st change I made was I only added a few of the tag pages and I kept them as long as the other pages. The instructions called or them t be 3 1/2" long and I made mine 5". I realize they were shorter so you could cut and use every bit of paper which was great but I did it a little different.

 

 

The next change I made was with one of the CD folders. I opened up one of the glued pockets so I could make a fold out petal type page.

I added 2 pieces of cardstock to the small flaps on the folder to make bigger pages.

Then the pages fold over each other to close.

Here's the petal pages all matted and ready for photos.

 

I also added a bigger fold out page in the 1/2 pocket next to it.

Here you can see the longer flag pages.

I love the versatility to this little album-it can be decorated so many different ways! Love it!
You definitely should make one of your own!

The Male Room Challenge # 35 with Club Scrap Creative License

Hi there! Wow! It was 85 degrees in Upstate NY today! Unbelievable! I took the top off my Jeep Wrangler for the 1st time this year-WooHoo!!! I did manage to get in some crafty time this evening though and made a card for The Male Room Challenge #35. This challenge blog is for masculine papercrafty projects and the theme was "transport"-perfect for this month's Club Scrap Creative License kit.

 

 

This kit has such awesome masculine elements-cars, license plates and hubcaps! The keys I used didn't come with the kit but it does have a cool key stamp!

I don't make a lot of masculine projects so this was nice for a change!

Club Scrap Creative License-Card Challenge Can You Case it #119

Hello! I hope everybody is enjoying their weekend. It's kind of cool and windy here in Upstate NY today-A good day for crafting!

I made a card for the Can you Case it Color Challenge #119. The color combo for the challenge was Gold, White and Blue! Perfect for this Month's Club Scrap Creative License Kit! 

 

This kit has a great masculine feel with car themed papers and embellishments. I love the keys-so cute! It's hard to tell in the photo but the dark paper is actually blue and kind of sparkly! Be sure to check back to see what else I make with this amazing kit!
